Christmas spirit - February 14

Portford Homes displays Christmas spirit

The magic of Christmas came early for children from Athersley South Primary School in Barnsley recently, when thanks to the generosity of one housebuilder, the six to eight year olds received a special Christmas treat not just for themselves but for the whole school.
As part of its ongoing community programme in Barnsley – where the housebuilder is currently offering a range of new homes at its Cypress Heights development -  Portford Homes donated £250 to the school.
Getting into the Christmas spirit, Portford also invited the children to create a design for a Christmas card that would then be made to send to family and friends.

Having received over 60 entries Portford Homes last week invited the lucky winners to Cypress Heights to receive their prizes and have a look around the new designer showhome that has been impressing Barnsley buyers.

Key stage 2 winner Caitlin Smith, aged eight, impressed the judges with her design of a snowman, complete with a colourful scarf and carrot nose, whilst Luke Frosdick wowed with his star-themed design which also included a Reindeer and a Christmas tree surrounded by lots of presents.

The two winners received £25 worth of WHSmith book vouchers and the four runners up India Docherty, Jake Day, Bethany Sidall and Connor Harvey were each presented with £10 vouchers for their designs.
Portford Homes’ support for the local primary school is just one example of the many ways in which the company helps to enhance the communities in which it builds. Alexandra Taylor, from Portford Homes, who presented the cheque for £250 to the school, said: “We get involved in all kinds of different community initiatives and are particularly committed to activity that relates to children and education.
“In fact the school have taken part in our health and safety campaign, which helps to educate youngsters about the potential dangers of playing on buildings sites.”
Athersely South Primary School Head Teacher Mr Iredale said: “The school is extremely grateful for the donation from Portford Homes, and the school council has voted to make use of the money in our sensory garden and woodland area.

“The children were very excited to be visiting the development again to see how it has changed over recent months and to take a peak at the fantastic showhome. I think they will all go home to their parents asking for a new home at Cypress Heights to be added to their Christmas wish list!”

Despite the Christmas rush, it seems a significant proportion of Barnsley buyers have not been put off by the busy Christmas period when it comes to buying a home. Portford Homes is busy moving a number of buyers into their new homes at Cypress Heights now, just 10 days before Christmas Day!

“It’s a busy time of year for us as we want to make sure our buyers are in their new homes in time to unwrap their presents on Christmas Day. But even now we are thinking about next year, and come January will have a number of new and exciting offers to help buyers back into the market.”

Portford Homes currently has a number of beautiful family homes available at Cypress Heights on Carlton Road in Barnsley. The choice of new homes will suit all budgets and lifestyles with prices starting from £175,000. For more information call Portford Homes on 01226 299815 or log onto www.portford.co.uk
