Mayor of Rotherham 'breaks ground' for new homes in Brinsworth - June 03

A ceremony was held recently with the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham at Portford Homes’ St Edwards Park in Brinsworth to mark the start of construction on a host of new homes.

The Mayor, Mr Allan Jackson, his wife and Lady Mayoress, Mrs Yvonne Jackson and Councillor Alan Buckley, Chairman of Brinsworth Parish Council were invited by the housebuilder to ‘break ground’ at the new development which will eventually offer a range of brand new homes.

The Mayor was enthusiastic about the development, stating: “The start of St Edwards Park is not only a significant development in its own right here in Brinsworth but as part of the ongoing regeneration of the Borough as a whole.

I’m sure it will create a sustainable environment that will in turn generate a new and exciting community and I’m personally delighted that the council along with Portford Homes took the initiative to develop the site.”

Portford Homes has also donated three top-of-the-range laptop computers to Brinsworth Parish Council for the community scheme ‘Kidzone’ where the eight to 11 year olds are proving IT is simply childsplay!

With the help of these laptops from Portford Homes we could be creating a new generation of computer whizz kids!” says Councillor Alan Buckley, Chairman of Brinsworth Parish Council who received the laptops on behalf of Kidzone.

The computers are being used by children attending Kidzone to help them develop useful computer skills in a fun and safe environment.

In today's technological world it’s increasingly important for young children to understand how computers work and it is important for all children to have regular access to computers to equip them with skills that they will require in later years.

"We are delighted with Portford Homes’ generous donation. The children can’t stop playing with the laptops, in fact we’re having to draw-up a rota to stop the squabbling!"

Set in a quiet residential suburb, within two miles of Rotherham town centre, Portford Homes’ flagship venture in Brinsworth will offer new homes ranging from apartments to townhouses and detached. The first phase is set to go on sale in summer 2008.

David Mackintosh, Sales and Marketing Director at Portford Homes said: “We are delighted to be starting a new development for people in Rotherham. We expect the combination of lifestyle and high quality homes to be very popular.”
